Perfect Apple Pie Everytime

ApplePie1This simple recipe is versatile enough to change at will yet simple enough to turn out perfectly EVERY TIME and easy enough to have hot apple pie for desert tonight.

The versatile apple pie an American Favorite

This will produce the PERFECT pie every time

I cheat and use store bought pie crusts but you can easily find a good recipe on line…  I prefer the Crisco recipe.  Just remember pie crust hates to be played with… only touch it and work with it as much as necessary.  The longer you work it, the tougher it will be. That is the secret we (experienced cooks) never tell you about pie crust.  LOL

6 raw apples peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
2 heaping tablespoons of cinnamon
2 tablespoons flour
5 teaspoons butter
2 raw pie crusts

1 egg white
several tablespoons of sugar

6 raw apples… the taste of the pie will be completely dependent on your choice of apples.  I like a sweet pie and usually use red delicious but this pie was made from a combination of red delicious and Gala apples…
in a measuring cup mix:
1 cup sugar
2 heaping tablespoon of cinnamon
2 tablespoons of flour
1 teaspoon of salt
Pour this over your peeled, cored and sliced apples in a large bowl and mix.
Into your bottom pie crust (make sure to ventilate with a few stabs into the crust.
Pour apple mixture then any remaining sugar mixture on top of the apples but be certain every slice looks coated with your sugar mixture.  Top this with 5 slices of butter about a teaspoon each.  I put 4 around then 1 in the middle.
Place the top crust on your pie and if it has not come apart like the one in this picture vent the top crust.  I did not crimp the sides of my top crust because I enjoy that delicious gooey look of it as it is in this picture.
Place your pie on a cookie sheet and into a preheated oven 375 degrees for 45 minutes

Take one egg white and beat until frothy.  Brush this over your top pie crust which will make it very moist and shinny.  Don’t worry, you probably will NOT use the entire egg white just dispose of it OR the dogs really like it.   Sprinkle a little sugar on top and there ya go.. A pie just like this one.

You can change up the recipe with different spices.  Sometimes if I want a spicy apple pie, I will use about 1/8 teaspoon cloves or nutmeg  etc….. Always use the cinnamon though in addition to any other spice you might want to try.
